The WHS&E Advisor/Officer is an integral part of the SSI SCHAEFER safety team. The WHS&E Advisor/Officer is to work collaboratively with the EHS Manager to ensure that the safety management system is implemented and suitable. The WHS&E Advisor/Officer is to consult and communicate with all interested parties to ensure that SSI SCHAEFER have implemented site safety requirements and that they are functional and being met.
Your role:
The role of the WHS&E Advisor/Officer is to work with the EHS Manager to ensure that the SSI SCHAEFER WHS&E management system is effectively implemented across the ANZ business.
It is also a key responsibility of the role to ensure that the WHS&E management system is continuously improved by conducting safety audits, identifying opportunities to improve, making recommendations and plans for implementation and following through to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure that the required safety and environmental systems have been implemented to meet legal requirements and those of SSI SCHAEFER.
To work collaboratively with SSI SCHAEFER personnel to influence a positive safety culture.
Assist the site teams with safe management of subcontractor activities.
To assist in the continuous improvement and ongoing implementation of WHS&E management systems.
Coach and mentor the Safety Improvement Teams to continuously improve.
Undertake auditing to ensure that site safety systems comply with the requirements of the site-specific Safety Management Plans.
Work Health and Safety Responsibilities:
Assist the Customer Service and project delivery teams to develop and implement the required safety management system so that SSI SCHAEFER meet the client's or principal contractor's requirements.
Complete training and onboarding of new and existing SSI SCHAEFER personnel and contractors.
Assist the EHS Manager to ensure that the safety systems are continually reviewed and updated by completing internal auditing against the requirements of ISO 45001.
Support the site teams (maintenance and project) in the practical application of WHS&E, risk and injury management practices to both prevent and mitigate the impact of workplace injury and environmental harm.
Contribute to the development and implementation of procedures and systems in relation to WHS&E.
Assist the Customer Service and project delivery site managers with safety related documentation, safe work procedures, safe work method statements and forms.
Conduct site safety plan audits, safety inspections, safety observations and help others do so.
As part of the implementation of safety processes work with site teams to ensure that they are commercially viable.
Instigate safety related corrective and preventative actions and manage safety issues that have occurred.
Assist the site management teams to establish and maintain a hazard register and for ensuring that controls are developed and implemented.
Provide WHS&E advice to Project Managers, Site Managers, Site Supervisors.
Where required, assist the site teams to collaborate with the Principal Contractor's and client’s health and safety representatives on relevant issues.
Assist the site management team with managing onsite contractors through the WHS Monitor online tool.
Take care of your own health and safety as well as that of others including the implementation of risk control measures to prevent injuries or illnesses.
Co-operate with SSI SCHAEFER policies, procedures and instructions including timely reporting of hazards, incidents and injuries via SSI SCHAEFER reporting process.
Other responsibilities as outlined in WHS&E system documentation.
Your profile:
We require a person for this role with strong safety experience and qualifications, preferably with logistics/materials handling customer service and project environment experience. This person should also be a great communicator and influencer, be well organised and be able to self-manage.
Skills:
Sound working knowledge of WHS&E legislation and codes of practice.
Working knowledge of Risk Management practices.
Previous experience working with maintenance teams in the delivery of safe work processes at client sites.
Understanding the setting up and delivery of safe work systems in a construction environment.
Have a working knowledge of machine risk safety principles and Australian Standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Competent computer and literacy skills.
Complete data analysis and prepare and present reports.
Experience in interacting and influencing with a diverse workforce.
Prepare and present training to a variety of work groups.
Self-motivated and well developed organisational and time management skills.
Good knowledge of incident reporting and injury management processes.
Good understanding of safe work practices for Working at Heights, Isolation of Energy, Electrical Safety, Mobile Plant, Powered Industrial trucks, Hot Works, Lifting & Rigging and PPE.
Educational Qualifications:
Valid Australian Driver licence.
Safety Industry White Card.
Diploma in Work Health & Safety (Minimum).
Cert IV – Training & Assessment (Optional).
