The corporate headquarters in Caprie-Torino, Italy wanted the company to organize the storage and material handling flow in an effort to ship on time with accurate product. With over 30,000 SKUs in multiple locations and bins, the project was a challenge.
SMW Autoblok took time performing due diligence. The solution needed to handle an array of pick criteria. First, the company needed to house small, medium, and large parts. Second, technology was needed in order to integrate into the company ERP system. They needed a system that would keep adequate inventory counts at all time, verify order picking, and provide a fail-proof solution.
There are two different types of orders, which include internal and external. Both orders come through the ERP system, which are sent to the SSI SCHAEFER warehouse management system. There are two LOGIMAT vertical lift modules (VLMs). One for the main automatic picking storage and the other for a failsafe redundancy process.
The pallet racking system incorporates into the technology picking process as well. This standard feature allows employees to pick orders using the same barcoding system, from either the LOGIMAT VLM or the pallet shelving system. Everything integrates into one solution and utilizes the barcoding system, which displays on the pick list, invoices, and quotations. In addition, the LOGIMAT Pick to Light feature enables error-free picking.
The entire system enables SMW Autoblok to safe time on locating the correct parts. Plus, the new system from SSI SCHAEFER speeds up the processing time to deliver just-in-time parts for production.
