Signpost for the individual intralogistics path
What can a logistics forum do to make logistics fascinating and challenging alike in an environment of increasing complexity and dynamics. The SSI SCHAEFER in-house forum LOGISTICA takes place every two years and is an established platform to meet companies in this stress field and to set pillars for future logistics success together. LOGISTICA 2019 from 16 to 18 October 2019, set new standards with 240 guests from 36 countries. Michael Mohr, Executive Vice President Sales at SSI SCHAEFER states: “LOGISTICA was extraordinarily successful. Our aim was to provide our customers with a perceptible added value using customer talks, exciting external speakers, live demonstrations of key technologies and an interactive dialog across all sectors of industry with numerous participants from all over the world. This enables us to support companies in their logistics challenges as a partner on a long-term basis.”
Inspiring keynotes and panel talks
The presenter, TV journalist Kay-Sölve Richter, took the LOGISTICA participants on a journey to the world of professional sports. Britta Heidemann, former world champion and Olympic champion in épée fencing presented the “1% mindset” and how attitude often contributes the last grain to victory. In a panel talk, Britta Heidemann met the reigning Formula 3 European champion and Formula 2 race driver Mick Schumacher. The SSI SCHAEFER brand ambassador talked about career paths, setbacks and achieving almost unattainable goals with the former professional fencer and an SSI SCHAEFER expert – a discussion that revealed interesting parallels.
The keynote speech by the futurologist Matthias Horx was also inspiring. On the second day of LOGISTICA, the “future optimist” put digitalization into a new light, in an entertaining but also unusual way. On the third day the dauntless airshow pilot Frank Versteegh presented his perspective as well as his experience in risk management. Well-known to the international audience was the 21-year-old Felix Finkbeiner, who at the age of 9 founded the “Plant-for-the-Planet” movement and had approx. 9 million trees planted. He welcomed the presented initiative for sustainability in logistics.
Logistics challenges from the customer’s point of view
Some of the participating SSI SCHAEFER customers presented their individual logistics solutions that work successfully in their companies. The most important components of the 3D MATRIX solution® by SSI SCHAEFER are shuttles and automated guided vehicles. The Lyko Group, a Swedish provider of haircare and beauty products, talked about the logistics practice of the omni-channel business and the challenges of their fast growing e-commerce business. In the new distribution center, the SSI SCHAEFER logistics software WAMAS®, shuttle systems and ergonomic work stations are deployed.
The fundamental importance of a reliable logistics software and how to find the perfect WMS became apparent in a speech by the forwarding agency Gebrüder Weiss. The SAP solution deployed at an SSI SCHAEFER customer was also presented as an example. A panel talk with T-Systems and the start-up LoadFox on the application of artificial intelligence in logistics perfected the topic IT.
For ASKO, subsidiary of the leading wholesaling group NorgesGruppen ASA in Scandinavia, sustainability has become the guiding theme for corporate policy. A company representative reported on the sustainability of working in the logistics center implemented by SSI SCHAEFER. The automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler deals intensively with another crucial topic in logistics: In the course of implementing a distribution center with SSI SCHAEFER as general contractor, Schaeffler and SSI SCHAEFER developed the concept “Maintenance 4.0 for Intralogistics” together. This concept was presented to the audience
Experiencing key technologies live

Five major trends in focus
How does SSI SCHAEFER as one of the leading manufacturers and providers see the future of intralogistics? There are five major trends the company considers challenging and decisive for success. These were in focus of a presentation to the international participants at LOGISTICA:
Speed to Solution stands for the ever shorter time window that remains to fulfill customer requirements against a background coined by growing dynamics and complexity. Customer Centricity means that companies have to get as close as possible to their customers, understand them and act correspondingly to fulfill these needs or even anticipate them. Adaptive Intralogistics is the key to effective logistics: To be able to work efficiently, all intralogistics components – software, hardware, processes and people – have to work together as a team. Sustainability becomes a decisive part of successful corporate management when the business moves to the next century. The fifth major trend is Passion & Trust. Companies today expect not only first-class products and solutions from their suppliers, they require long-term, reliable partners who passionately pursue business and feel committed to the customer.
Positive feedback from international participants
Information, inspiration and international networking of logistics experts, who took home ground-breaking ideas and cooperation approaches for their individual logistics path. By the end of the event, LOGISTICA participants donated for planting 2,170 trees for Felix Flinkbeiner’s Plant-for-the-Plant initiative. The talks continue around the globe. SSI SCHAEFER would like to thank all guests who came from all over the world to take their logistics to the next level.
