Intelligent Robotics Applications as Key to High-performance Overall Solutions in Intralogistics

Requirements for logistics are permanently increasing: Trends such as growing individualization of products, lot size 1, high delivery capacity and short order processing and delivery times, but also external influences such as demographic changes and the consequential loss of workforce call for high-performance intralogistics. Numerous trading companies and increasingly also the industry opt for robotics application in logistics. This way, human beings can be relieved of hardly ergonomic or physically demanding activities as they are automated. Multiple-shift operations with up to 24/7 availability can be realized. The options range from automatic palletization or depalletization and separation of products to highly dynamic solutions for efficient piece picking. It is crucial to consider the entire material flow and to not limit robots to individual processes in the chain, but to integrate them into an automated intralogistics overall solution. This is the only way operators can benefit from the vast array of advantages.

Robotics solutions for automated palletization of cases

Each sector of industry has specific requirements. The health sector is characterized by a large number of regulations regarding drug safety. Modern piece picking robots with integrated scan function ensure efficient picking as well as precise identification and verification conformable to law of products in the course of tracking & tracing. Trade calls for automation solutions for store-friendly compilation of order pallets or automated picking for small-part e-commerce orders of a much diversified item range.

Intelligent robotics applications can be flexibly integrated into logistics systems. Software plays an important role here. It is crucial not to try automating manual processes 1:1, but to find the best solution for holistic optimization. A high-performance overall solution must always be tailored to the requirements and needs of the operator – such as range of items and packaging, required performance and availability as well as efficiency during the durability of the system.

WAMAS® Software Modules Revolutionizes Robot-aided Picking
Every robot is only as good as the software it is controlled by. With its comprehensive IT systems expertise, SSI Schaefer already has all the necessary knowledge in-house. The modules of the WAMAS® logistics software make robots more “intelligent” and fit for holistic logistics applications. The central component of robot control is what is called the Robot Material Flow Controller (RMC). RMC processes the 3D vision data, which is then used to set the movements of the robots. The modular design of WAMAS® enables the creation of customized solutions. Industrial image processing is one of the key technologies of automation. It helps to control machines intelligently, automate processes and verify and check items. Furthermore, corresponding systems check quality criteria and provide valuable data for process optimization. Based on this know-how, SSI Schaefer provides users with the required connections of software, intralogistics hardware and industrial image processing from a single source.
