SSI SCHAEFER was chosen to build Dafgård's new facility in Källby, where thousands of ready-to-eat frozen meals are stored and retrieved each day.

Swedish family-owned company for three generations

For three generations, the Swedish family-owned company Dafgårds has developed and delivered frozen quality meals to hungry customers. It all started in the 1930s when Gunnar Dafgård stood on the square in the city of Lidköping and sold the products. As his success grew, Gunnar Dafgård became a true entrepreneur in the frozen food industry and was the first in Sweden to prepare and sell packaged meatballs and hand-rolled cabbage rolls.

Strong growth and popularity

Today, Dafgårds is the most popular brand for ready meals in Sweden and the company today has around 1,000 employees, producing 40 million Billy's Pizza dishes every year and 400,000 meatballs – every hour.

SSI SCHAEFER designed and built a turnkey high-bay warehouse for Dafgårds

The company signed a contract with SSI SCHAEFER for a new deep-freeze warehouse in Källby for the storage of Dafgård's products, at a temperature of -28°C. This high-bay warehouse contains more than 30,000 pallet spaces. These are controlled by 6 advanced SSI Schaefer EXYZ cranes for double depth storage and retrieval. The delivery also includes a conveyor system directly connected to the production facility, a new distribution area and SSI SCHAEFER's comprehensive logistics software WAMAS.®

"We were chosen as suppliers for Dafgård's new warehouse by suggesting the best solution based on Dafgårds' specific needs" Sales Manager Anders Bohlin from SSI SCHAEFER elaborates "The solution we presented will primarily provide Dafgårds with a faster order follow-up, more accurate inventory control and reduce the time currently spent on forklift loading. Of course, our many references for frozen storage were in our favor in the decision."

More storage space needed for future growth

"The last few years of growth have created a challenge for our logistics," says Anders Dafgård, Technical Manager at the company and continues: "Our old warehouse space was too small and we did not have enough storage space for future growth. During the high season, we even need to utilize external storage for our products. Our logistical process had become too expensive, so we decided to centralize all our warehouses and build a state-of-the-art logistics center."
