Efficient storage of paints and primers

MIPA SE has tasked SSI SCHAEFER with expanding the logistics centre at their headquarters in Essenbach, Germany. From constructing a high-bay warehouse to integrating IT systems, SSI SCHAEFER will work closely with MIPA to deliver a tailored, end-to-end solution.

MIPA SE’s broad portfolio includes diverse paints and primers for automotive repairs, and industrial and construction markets, plus wood sealers and stains. It develops and manufactures products at seven sites across the world. To keep pace with strong business growth, and to expand storage capacity at its headquarters in Essenbach, near Landshut in Bavaria, Germany, MIPA has partnered with intralogistics expert SSI SCHAEFER.

The resulting made-to-measure solution will comprise an automated high-bay warehouse and four aisles of pallet racking with 9,680 positions. The 23-metre-high facility will feature SSI SCHAEFER’s silo design – i.e. the racking itself bears the load of the roof and walls. MIPA’s aim is to create additional storage capacity to accommodate its growing production volume, while making efficient use of space. Moreover, by consolidating its warehousing activities at the new building in Essenbach, MIPA will eliminate costs for off-site storage. Additionally, it can focus its logistics expertise at the site, improving delivery capability.

Working hand-in-hand with MIPA, SSI SCHAEFER’s experts have developed a sustainable, future-proof solution. The warehouse will, for example, be equipped with four energy-efficient Exyz storage and retrieval machines (SRMs) – plus pallet conveyors with control systems all installed and integrated by SSI Schaefer.

SSI SCHAEFER’s own WAMAS® Warehouse Management System will support material flows and provide user-friendly visualisation for both the automated and manual sections of the facility. Moreover, SSI SCHAEFER will leverage its IT expertise to seamlessly integrate WAMAS with MIPA’s own ERP system, INFOR M3 – creating a complete, one-stop solution.

Hand-over for the completed high-bay warehouse is slated for January 2018.
