A Vertical Lift Module (SSI LOGIMAT®) is an advanced concept/design that came from the Vertical Carousel.
The carousel system uses a chain system that move carriers along the chain in a vertical motion. Since it is the first storage and retrieval system developed, user will need to consider an overloading situation since everything hangs from a chain (so you always have to consider what is on the other side). Think of it as a ferris wheel, in which the gondolas have to be of a same height, weight in order to maintain a balance, you sometimes have to let several empty gondolas pass before one climbs in.
A Vertical Lift Module (VLM), on the other hand, doesn’t carry such burdens. In a warehouse environment, you need to be flexible in the process of retrieving and storage of articles. You can futureproof the storage space by increasing the height of the VLM or by reducing the height of the goods.
Warehouse space is one of the most important factors in every warehouse. Since the Vertical Lift Modules are built upwards and not horizontally, they increase the storage density in the warehouse area over a few square meters, and at the same time they enable easier access to goods.
As the articles stored in the SSI LOGIMAT® are not visible, the user needs to access the parts using a password. It is also possible to select a user and assign him/her the appropriate authorization and even limit the trays that he/she can operate.
Each retrieval is booked directly at the storage lift and can be imported directly into the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. The order picking list is visible on the SSI LOGIMAT® display and can be processed immediately. Therefore, the inventory is always up to date and no more paper is needed.
Minimum once a year maintenance is recommended for single shift and twice a year for double shift. Troubleshooting can be done remotely. 90% of the machine parts can be detected and rectified remotely.
An Automated picking involves picking goods / products that are carried out automatically by machines that are controlled using the PLC software and then picked up by the operator.
This process is also known as the "goods to man" principle. While manual picking or also known as “man to goods” is the process of picking the goods / products in which the operator searches for the location and retrieve the goods / products physically. Yes, the integration of Vertical Lift Modules into an existing ERP environment (for example SAP) is a worthwhile goal in order to ensure complete integration into the intelligent material flow of a manufacturing company. But it is not mandatory. For simply storing and managing items, the machine does not have to be integrated into a higher-level ERP system, but can be implemented directly out-of-the-box.
