Products often have to be transported long distances safely and cost-effectively. Tailor-made load carrier represents the ideal solution when used for deep-drawing processes. SSI SCHAEFER manufactures thermoformed dunnage suitable for both manual and automated handling. You benefit from the fact that thermoformed load carrier enables the container to be reused when the parts change.
Thermoforming is a vacuum deep-drawing process where plastic panels are drawn over an aluminum die. The material heats up and can be shaped. A vacuum is generated and draws the panel across the die. After the forming process, the piece can be reworked or refined, depending on your requirements.
Aluminum tools are cost-effective and fast to manufacture because they are subjected to less stress. The plastic panels can be manufactured using different material qualities (PS, ABS, PP) and ESD designs are also possible. As a consequence, the material quality can be perfectly adapted to match the requirements of the articles and the process.
In addition to manual handling, dunnage is especially suited for highly automated systems. It is primarily used in production involving automated part removal and the material flow in the automotive supply industry. The customized containers from SSI SCHAEFER are based on the Euro container (KLT) in accordance with VDA standards.
The perfectly shaped container is manufactured in one plastic injection molding process as a single piece. The unique aspect is that the container and the inlay are a single unit. The centering unit is the defining element. It is shaped to precisely match the product’s contours, eliminating the need for a separate insert. This approach ensures optimal protection of your products during handling and transport.
Lifting slots and centering boreholes support the horizontal and vertical gripping by automated devices and robots. The vertical walls of the workpiece carrier and the ribbed design provide the necessary stability. In contrast, the smooth floor ensures that it can move along conveyor systems without any impediments. Upon request, SSI SCHAEFER can also equip your container with VDA-compliant 4-side label holders.
Small or middle-sized articles do not necessarily require cost-intensive packaging. The assembled inserts from SSI SCHAEFER are suitable for objects with different shapes. This includes objects that only need to be centered rather than secured, for example.
The insert elements from SSI SCHAEFER are modular and divide up the containers. Any desired dimensions are possible. The inserts can be manufactured with a volume weight from 15 g/m3 to 200 g/m3. Furthermore, there are virtually no limits to shapes or materials used for customized inserts. Solutions are available using foam, twin-wall pallets, or corrugated cardboard. The materials are also available as anti-static versions or with ESD protection.
The unique shape and size of many products also requires special container sizes. SSI SCHAEFER’s Cut and Weld containers provide the perfect fit. Depending on the specific size, whether large or small, segments can be either removed from the basic container or multiple containers can be combined using mirror welding to create a new container.
The containers are manufactured out of steel, polypropylene, or polyethylene. Upon request, the containers are also available with conductive material for electrostatic discharge.
When used for normal applications, the welded containers are almost as sturdy as SSI SCHAEFER’s standard containers. The weld seam has approximately 90% of the material strength of the container. The same also applies when ESD materials are used. Despite the weld seam, the container retains its sturdiness, stackability, automatic handling capabilities, and durability.
The design, engineering, and static work for the container demand exceptional care. We are happy to advise you regarding the options and sizes.
