Efficient storage optimizes energy consumption and safeguards investments

Optimized energy consumption in your warehouse protects the environment and simultaneously reduces the facility’s operating and maintenance costs. Over the long term, this strengthens the environmental perception of your brand and safeguards your investment.

In-depth expertise and extensive experience enable SSI SCHAEFER to implement the highest quality storage and logistics systems. With our broad spectrum of intralogistics services, we think of systems and complete solutions that efficiently and sustainably safeguard your success.

Energy efficiency from the very beginning

During the development and implementation of SSI SCHAEFER storage and picking systems, energy efficiency is an integral part of the planning process. This also includes:

  • Path-optimized facility layout

  • Use of energy-efficient components and drives

  • Lightweight design

  • Compact storage concepts

  • Use of efficient drive variants

  • Reduced drive power through deadweight compensation

  • Friction minimization through suitable material combinations

  • On-demand deactivation

  • Intelligent control of the main SRM axes

  • Energy recuperation facilities

Green Building and Green Logistics

The following is a selection of areas in which we advise you and work with you to implement:

Use of regenerative energies

  • What are the options for photovoltaics, geothermal, or solar energy?

Lighting

  • Are energy-saving lamps installed? Is there a presence monitoring solution in place?

Heating

  • Are there sensible supplements such as pellet heating, district heating from biogas plants, or black bodies?

Construction measures

  • Is an energy-optimized roof and facade design possible? Are the gates, doors, and locks adequately insulated?

  • How would selecting a compact storage solution affect the energy efficiency?

Real estate sustainability and green building are two priorities for us. At SSI SCHAEFER these aspects are known as Green Logistics. You receive building certifications with internationally recognized seals of quality for sustainability and energy-efficient construction from SSI SCHAEFER. Upon request, our experts certify the buildings to DGNB, LEED or BREEAM standards.

Depending on the technology used in a logistics building, electricity is needed to power work stations, ground conveyors, and other equipment, or also to cool the halls. In addition, areas for the infrastructure such as transformer stations for central and decentral charging points  also have to be set up. An effective energy concept can contribute to good logistics and construction planning and compensate for part of the electricity costs. In keeping with the principle “as much as necessary, as little as possible”, battery charging concepts or energy-optimized operation of the logistics equipment can provide considerable savings potential.

Compact goods storage follows the same aim: maximizing the storage density of the existing storage area can increase the storage capacity by more than 90%, or  reduce the surface area used by 40%. Operators benefit from this because both the greatest storage quantity and the reduced construction volume, along with lower building and cooling costs, will counterbalance the constant energy consumption of a temperature-controlled storage facility.

Furthermore, we also offer our customers an energy audit to EN 16247 standards as an evaluation of the existing real estate. We also help you to establish an energy management system and obtain certification as per ISO 50001. All these services pursue the goal of identifying and implementing energy saving optimizations for our customers. The effectiveness of these optimization measures is illustrated by their ROI calculations. We constantly assess these measures through repeating audits and effectively documenting the savings throughout the process.
