Case study Country Road Group
CRG and SSI SCHAEFER partnering to deliver a scalable and future-proof facility.
The Country Road Group is one of Australia’s leading and largest lifestyle and fashion retailers, with 4 fashion brands - Witchery, Trenery, Country Road, Mimco & Politix. The Country Road Group has over 630 stores across Australia with stores also in New Zealand and South Africa.
In May 2014 Country Road announced plans to build a AU$53million warehouse and distribution centre in Melbourne. The 22,000m2 purpose-built facility was designed to support both bricks-and mortar and online sales across their then 4 brands. The new distribution centre was renamed the Omni Fulfilment Centre and within the business was considered an extension to the stores. Throughput capacity is scalable with between 60,000 to 120,000 units per day as variability changes over time.
The Omni Fulfilment Centre includes SSI SCHAEFER’s high speed conveying technology to facilitate crossdocking and despatch sortation of store order cartons. It has an in-bound sortation system for palletising of cartons from received containers.
The facility encompasses an on-line order fulfilment area, with zone routing conveyor, a series of put walls for order sortation and repack benches for finishing completed orders, and an out-bound sortation system for sorting completed store order cartons.
SSI SCHAEFER’s Put-to-Light technology allows high-efficiency fulfilment of flat packed items for both store and online orders. Automatic invoice insertion and despatch label insertion machines streamline order finishing. The complete automated system is managed by SSI SCHAEFER’s WAMAS® warehouse control software.
For storage the site encompasses both VNA pallet racking for storage of 3,900 pallets, and Regal 3000 long span shelving with 10,400 shelf locations for carton storage.
